Guide for Authors

Thank you for considering the Journal of Applied Language and Discourse Studies for your scholarly work. To ensure clarity, consistency, and high-quality publication, please follow the guidelines below when preparing your manuscript.

  1. Article Types and Word Counts
  • Full Research Articles:
    Original empirical or theoretical research papers.
    Word count: 6,000 to 8,000 words (including references, tables, figures, and appendices).
  • Review Papers:
    Comprehensive critical reviews of existing literature in a field.
    Word count: 3,000 to 6,000 words (including references, tables, figures, and appendices).
  1. Manuscript Preparation
  • Style:
    Manuscripts must be prepared according to APA 7th Edition style guidelines, including formatting, citations, references, headings, and language use.
  • Language:
    Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise, and academic English.
  • Structure:
    Suggested sections for full articles:
    • Title Page (including author details and affiliations)
    • Abstract (150–250 words)
    • Keywords (3–6 keywords)
    • Introduction
    • Method 
    • Results
    • Discussion
    • Conclusion
    • References
    • Tables and Figures (placed after references or uploaded separately)

         For review papers, adapt sections to suit a comprehensive literature overview and synthesis.

  1. Formatting
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.
  • Spacing: Double-spaced throughout the manuscript.
  • Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
  • Page Numbers: Include page numbers in the header or footer.
  • Headings: Follow APA 7 heading levels appropriately for sections and subsections.
  1. Citations and References
  • Use author-date citation format (e.g., Smith, 2020) for all in-text citations.
  • Include a reference list at the end, formatted per APA 7 guidelines.
  • Ensure all cited sources are in the reference list and vice versa.
  1. Tables and Figures
  • Number tables and figures consecutively (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1).
  • Provide clear titles and captions.
  • Submit tables and figures as editable files when possible.
  1. Ethical Considerations
  • Authors must confirm compliance with ethical standards in research and publication.
  • Disclose any potential conflicts of interest or funding sources.
  1. Submission
  • Submit manuscripts through our online submission system at https://jalds.araku.ac.ir/contacts.
  • Include a cover letter stating the article type, originality, and ethics compliance.
  1. Peer Review
  • All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process.
  • Authors should ensure manuscripts are anonymized (remove identifying information).
